Microsoft Authenticator - the only IT supported authentication app for MFA

Summary

Explaining Microsoft Authenticator as the supported app for MFA

Body

Microsoft Authenticator is the only IT supported authentication app for access to your company email, applications, and services.

Microsoft Authenticator does not track or report phone activity and you can easily review, allow, or revoke permissions through the app settings on your device.

Alternative Authenticator Apps

Though unsupported, you may use another authenticator app (such as Google Authenticator, Authy, or 1Password) to register for MFA. Follow the same steps as enrolling Microsoft Authenticator, but scan the provided QR code with the alternate app.

However, we recommend the Microsoft Authenticator app because it provides additional features that are not available with other apps — including push notifications, passwordless sign-in, password resets, and advanced security protections like number matching.

With other apps, you will still be protected, but you’ll need to enter a 6-digit code each time and won’t have access to some of the newer phishing-resistant security features.
