Reporting Time

Why Report Time

Reporting time spent on tickets and tasks helps us:

  • Track the present
  • Report the past
  • Estimate the future

It demonstrates the human capital costs of work effort to help drive informed decision making. (We're not free!)

Can show where resources are overwork or underutilized.

Reduced scope creep because the costs associated with reporting time can be monitored.

Can show time spent keeping the lights on vs. growth or maturity efforts vs. transformational projects.

Helps our estimates for work effort get more accurate as we learn with the historical data.

How to Add Time

Time can be added to individual project tasks, when updating a ticket or ticket task, in the Time & Expense app (if accessible) and in My Work app. We'll describe adding it via the My Work app - adding time elsewhere will follow the same guidelines.

In the My Work app, select My Time Card from the left hand menu, then select + Add Time from the top menu.

Select whether you're reporting time into a Project/Workspace or Ticket (including ticket tasks).

Select either the Project/Workspace or the Ticket #, then the specific task for either, if appropriate.

Select the Time Type for the time you're reporting - a high level description, usually by role, of the type of work being reported.

Add hours for each day of the week that you'd like to report time for this ticket/task, and a separate description for each day's hours. You can select other weeks near the top of the Add Time Entry popup.

Select Save.

Add PTO to Shared Calendar

Follow the same steps as above to add time, but select Time Off, rather than Project/Workspace or Ticket.

Select Wilks IT Operations as the Project/Workspace, then select Paid Time Off (PTO) as the Time Type.

Add hours and descriptions to individual days.

Select Save
